behind the scenes @ sachi shoes AW14 campaign shoot

It’s no secret I’ve been pretty quiet on here for the last 6 months or so. You’ll be pleased to know, that I’ve been anything but quiet!

Late last year, I started a new Marketing and PR gig working on two very exciting Australian shoe brands, SachiΒ and Julius Marlow (for men).Β It’s been a whirlwind of shoes (so many beautiful shoes!), events, photo shoots, campaign planning, season launches and more… and, of course, a whole lot of other fun.

The above clip takes you behind the scenes of one of our most recent projects; the Sachi ‘Walk this Way’ Autumn/ Winter 2014 campaign shoot.

It was an amazing, yet challenging day (shooting a winter shoot on a 35 degree day is bound to be), filled with lots of fun thanks to an awesome team of talented, professional and passionate people. And, the outcome… well it’s something to be pretty proud of!

See more of the campaign on Sachi’sΒ Facebook and Instagram pages.

It’s no big secret that I love the colour blue… In all shades, shapes and sizes… in clothing, shoes, accessories, objects, nature… Pretty much in anything and everything. I even barrack for Carlton ‘The Blues’ in the AFL.

Why do I love blue so much? Who knows! I like to think that it’s because the many shades of blue remind me of the sky and the sea… vast, volatile, opportunistic and calming.

Here’s a recap of some of my blue moments from Instagram. Which is your favourite?

Instagram Recap: September/ October 2011

As some of you would know, I’m a little bit in love with Instagram.

For those of you not familiar with Instagram, it’s a fun way to share photos from your iPhone with a wider social network. It also has great photo filters, like buttons and commenting to make it interactive. Here are a few of my fave pics from the couple of months.

PS. Sorry about the multiple posts – for some reason WordPress on my iPad published it ‘several’ times!

Down Yonder goes Yonder

Alexa Chung wears the ever comfy Saltwater Sandals

So excited, one of my fave stores on Malvern Road South Yarra, has branched out beyond the confines of regular retail hours and launched a brand spanking new online store!
If you’re anything like me the urge to shop your favourite stores often hits at random times of the day or evening, like when reading Down Yonder’s fabulous blog in the wee hours of the morning. So, an online store can help feed the addiction, fill up the wardrobe with H-O-T buys and rapidly deplete the bank account.
Even better, if you get your orders in before 23 December, you’ll get them in time for Christmas. Woo hoo! for those of us stuck at work or those far away from Malvern Road.
Down Yonder first introduced us to the fabulous label Friend of Mine last year and also stock Saltwater Sandals (made famous by Alexa Chung and so comfy you’ll never want to wear anything else), jewellery from Stolen Girlfriends Club and more.
Check it out now! I’m pining over the Friend of Mine Life on Mars rings.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, Down Yonder are even offering fashion advice for when you’re a little unsure about mixing spots with leopard print – simply email them at downyonder@nausz.com πŸ˜‰

PS. Slight delay on getting the link transfer through to the new blog… However, it is live! So the choice is yours. Check out my posts here until the official change over… or if you want to start using the new blog now, check it out at http://houseofturtle.net Would love to know your thoughts.

H-O-T Photo: The Sartorialist – Vintage Photos

The Sartorialist: Alejandro & Mom, Vintage Photos, 22 May 2010
I am totally in love with this vintage picture recently posted on The Sartorialist. So much so that it’s become my screen saver on my phone (for now anyway). It captures such a magnificent moment of style, extravagance and grace. I love the mix of colours in her outfit, the clash of patterns and fur, even her grubby suede boots. Plus, little Alejandro is quite the little style master himself. Check out his floral hippy pants.
Check out The Sartorialist for more amazing vintage photos, and embrace some old world glamour.

Maximise the Maxi Dress

All items from Sass & Bide (click image to enlarge) – Clockwise
Chasing Dragons dress, From The Heart tee, Ring The Bells dress, Towards The Light denim vest,
The Taboo cropped jacket, 3 Strikes dress, Pocketful Of Dreams tee, I Will Wait For You tank

It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of Sass & Bide. I love their style, the ability to mix and match their clothes, and the different ways you can play around with them.

Take for example the maxi dress. As a shortie (152cm to be exact), maxi dresses are not something I thought I could, or would, ever wear. However, the fab girls at Sass & Bide showed me that this was not the case. And now, they’re one of my favourite summer staples to experiment with.

Sure Sass & Bide‘s dresses have ties, buttons and removable bits so you can make them shorter or change the look, but the principle can be applied to dresses from other designers. For example, simply knot both sides of the dress and voila, a long dress becomes shorter and more wearable (and no tripping over the dress on the escalator).

Another thing I have discovered is that it’s really easy to change the look of a maxi dress by wearing a plain black or white tee, or singlet, over the top and knotting it at the side. Alternatively, a loose (but short) light knit looks great too for those slightly cooler nights. Or, throw a denim vest over the top for a more casual look.

I managed to wear the same maxi dress three times in one week (I have no qualms wearing something repeatedly) – at the races, a mag launch and to the pub by applying this principle.

I also love wearing my short cowboy boots with a maxi dress. It gives a completely different look to sandals or heels.

The main rules are to break the rules… experiment, have fun and don’t be afraid to take risks.

Kelly Smith is a Friend of Mine

Totally loving Kelly Smith‘s photo-based illustrations for Friend of Mine Summer ’10. After all, these illustrations have everything – fashion, fun and a New York state of mind.

Kelly Smith is renowned for her fashion inspired illustrations, works with an impressive client list, has had several exhibitions and been featured in many local and international fashion mags, including Vogue, Russh, Fallen, Yen and Shop Til You Drop.

I would so love to buy one of these illustrations and hang it on my wall. Or, better yet the whole series. I might have to too if Kelly Smith gets mad that I pilfered these images off her blog Birdy & Me (which is also amazing). Ok, I lie… I actually did ask permission first and Kelly said I could.

For those of you not yet familiar with Friend of Mine, the label was recently launched by designer, Teale Talbot. H
er sexy and confident collection, ‘Yesterday’s Tomorrow‘ has already taken the fashion world by storm, and even been featured in the October issue of US Nylon mag.

The collection was inspired by ’90s supermodels, surf culture and even a touch of sci-fi. It is highly wearable, super H-O-T and can easily be mixed and matched with your existing wardrobe.

Oh, and some of the Twitterati out there might remember me carrying on about a pair of boots I was trying to get my hands on awhile ago… you know, the ones I DID get. Well, they are the boots in the image with the umbrella cart. And, I’m pretty sure the model is also wearing my Karen Walker sunnies. I am sooooooo cool. Ok, ok, I did purchase them at Down Yonder who stock Friend of Mine. πŸ˜‰

Net-A-Porter End of Season sale now on

Robert Cavalli Fringed Leather Vest

Chloe Leather Calf High Boots

Stella McCartney Palm Pendant Necklace

Net-A-Porter’s End of Season sale is now on! Hurry stock moves fast. Designers include Chloe, Halston (Rachel Zoe’s fave fashion house), Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Jimmy Choo and more.

The black and white image above is the campaign Net-A-Porter sent out. The silhouette is super cool. I could almost print it, frame it and stick it on my wall! But that would only encourage me to shop more!
My top three picks from the sales collection are:
1. Robert Cavalli Fringed Leather Vest – super hot, super now (Sass and Bide are bringing out a fringed vest in their July collection)
2. Chloe Leather Calf High Boots – You can never have too many pairs of boots. These will suit all occasions. Team with a shirt dress, jumpsuit, or a pair of leggings and a big jumper.
3. Stella McCartney Palm Pendant Necklace – I’ve been watching this piece for some time now, it reminds me of summer, beaches and cocktails with umbrellas in them.

Happy shopping!
