the corner shop presents knitin

20120328-233458.jpg

One of my big regrets was not letting my mother teach me how to knit. I never had the patience or interest in it. But it is one of those skills that is meant to be passed down from generation to generation, and sadly I missed my chance.

I can still learn though (if I ever master the patience part)… And, if I was in Sydney I’d be sure to take advantage of these great classes at The Corner Shop over the coming weeks. If you’re itching to learn how to knit… Book now!

Power Friending – Amber Mac

Amber Mac knows how to make friends online (and in person). Do you?

While you may never meet some of your online friends face-to-face, they still expect you to follow the established norms of friendship: be authentic, reach out, listen. And don’t lie to your friends. These same rules apply online.

Check out Amber Mac’s book, Power Friending to discover how you can expand your online connections into lasting friendships.

What’s more, and what House of Turtle loves about Amber, is that she’s young, hip and H-O-T!

I love her Dexter inspired ‘Texter’ clip which launched Power Friending online. Check it for yourself now:

Amber Mac is in Australia this week as a keynote speaker for the Schmart marketing conference in Melbourne, Monday 4 April and Sydney, Wednesday 6 April. Follow the conversation on Twitter @getschmart #smc11

Veuve, Epicure and sass & bide

Back in November (2010) I came home to find a beautiful vellum envelope in my letterbox. In it I found a cream postcard imprinted with bronze foil lettering which read “Heidi Middleton & Sarah-Jane Clarke invite you to Christmas drinks at the sass & bide Chapel Street boutique”.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to receive a letter in my life. So much better than the bills I usually receive.

So, on Thursday 2nd December I entered the Chapel Street boutique which was already filling with other sass & bide enthusiasts – customers, media, Melbourne socialites and of course the always fabulous sass & bide crew. It was a sea of sass & bide clothing, old and new, all worn
superbly.

I chatted to the very lovely Lauren from the Melbourne Central boutique for awhile… then she asked me if I’d met SJ. I turned to my right to see a stunning beach blonde wearing an amazing petrol gray trench (which is in stores later this year – I want one!) and glittery blue dress. It was none other than Sarah-Jane Clarke. No joke, I nearly didn’t recognise her.

We’ve all seen the gorgeous photos of SJ (I hope you don’t mind if I call you that), but she really is something in person. She’s simply stunning, and so warm and friendly. I have to say, it’s great when you get to meet your fashion idols and they exceed your expectations.

I then chatted with the guys from Epicure, who catered the event, the sass & bide girls from the boutiques (who scarily know me a little too well) and met the absolutely fabulous Divya who works in communications at the head office in Sydney.

All in all it was a fabulous night and was an honour to be invited.

Pop in to sass & bide today to see the first drop of the new papa sucre AW11 collection.

Event Report: Blackberry Curve Launch

Event: Blackberry Curve Launch

Date: Monday 19 October, 2009

Location: Carousel, 22 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park Lake, Victoria

Jessica Mauboy, massages, cocktails, freebies and more – Priscilla Lee, Winner of the Blackberry Curve Launch tickets competition, tells us about her fabulous evening!

It was a glorious spring evening for a launch party. Perfect weather and gorgeous venue right next to Albert Park Lake.

My friend and I helped ourselves to the drinks and nibbled on yummy canapes while we checked out the new Blackberry Curve. It has great easy to use features that are perfect for someone who would use their phone for music, Facebook and Twitter.

After checking out the Curve, we discovered that there were free massages. We quickly scrambled over to get some well deserved pampering.Yes, life is hard sometimes… 🙂

We suddenly heard a commotion and saw Jessica Mauboy heading towards the Blackberry. I couldn’t believe my eyes – and to my delight I managed to get a picture taken with her. Definitely a highlight of my VIP night.

Not long after, Jessica Mauboy performed live. She was amazing and the crowd went wild. Such a talented singer.

Unfortunately, I had to work the next day, so had to peel myself away from the party. Luckily, there were goodie bags waiting for everyone which were stuffed full with summer essentials, such as sunscreen, beach towels, frisbees and lip gloss.

It was truly an unforgettable night.

Big thanks to Melena from House of Turtle, and Midori, for the tickets!

Love Priscilla

Project Runway designers go green for Enviroweek

Sneak peak at Amber Renae’s avant-garde designs for Enviroweek

The Project Runway Australia gang are back… and they’re going green!

Anthony Capon, Mark Neighbour, Jason Chetcuti and Amber Renae joined forces with the fab crew at Wrapped by housemouse to create avant-garde frocks to show their support for Enviroweek.

Here’s a quick note from the very stylish and lovely Amber Renae requesting your help to support Enviroweek too…

Hi… Hope you’re fab! As you may be aware Enviroweek is on again – this is a national initiative aimed at raising funds for various environmental charities and organizations. Their motto is simple: “Change your habits for a week and reap the benefits for a lifetime”.

Enviroweek relies on motivated individuals to build brand awareness and credibility for the campaign. To help support the cause, and in true Project Runway style; Anthony Capon, Mark Neighbour, Jason Chetcuti and myself have created incredible avant-garde frocks made entirely out of recycled paper, courtesy of Wrapped by housemouse.

The frocks will be revealed at the end of Enviroweek, but in the meantime we need your assistance in raising funds to support this cause. You can check out our initiatives online – follow the link to make a small donation.

Every bit helps. You don’t need to be a greenie to be green. It just makes good sense to take care of our life support system – our environment. Who wants to breathe foul air, swim in polluted water, and live on a poisoned planet?

This is your chance to make a world of difference…your support will greatly impact on the success of Enviroweek.

Please forward to your environmentally aware friends

Amber Xx

Enviroweek runs from 11-17 October 2009 (yes, that’s this week – so hurry)

Event Report: Friends of Couture Chapel Street Store Opening

Friends of Couture‘s Caitlin and Nicole
Happy shoppers, Janni and Madeline

Event: Friends of Couture Chapel Street Store Opening

Date: Thursday 17 September, 2009

Location: 225 Chapel Street, Prahran Victoria

Last Thursday, Friends of Couture opened their new flagship Chapel Street store to an outstanding turnout of Melbourne fashionistas and enthusiasts. Guests entered the store via a rose arch to be greeted by flower girls with pretty pink cupcakes – just like in this growing label’s recent campaign.

DJs cranked out rockin’ tunes, champagne flowed and canapes were served while guests chatted and browsed the latest collection.

The most notable observation for me, was that it’s not everyday that you see a label that caters so well to so many different individual stlyes and looks. However, Friends of Couture guests were unique and stylish – from pretty in pink, to ’50s preppy and rocker punk.

The Chapel Street store itself is great. Friendly staff and lots of room to stock their massive collection of mens and womens clothes and accessories. Be sure to check it out for yourself.

H-O-T items from current collection: Cute taffeta tutus for the girls and checkered shirts for the boys. Fun!

To view more photos of the night and the Spring/ Summer 2009-10 Collection go to House of Turtle’s Facebook fan page and view the Friends of Couture album.

Event: 61st Primetime Emmy Awards
held at the Nokia Theatre on 20 September 2009, in Los Angeles

Today’s fashions from the Red Carpet at the 2009 Emmy Awards highlights classic sophistication and old world Hollywood glamour.

Whilst some might be disappointed that there were few ‘show stoppers’, I feel that the elegance and purity of the gowns was truly stunning and did not disappoint.

Key colours on the red carpet were black, greys and mushroom, navy, gold, red and teal. Purple made an appearance, as did various shades of pink, green and rich blues.

My H-O-T Picks and best dressed for the day would have to be Lindsay Price, Debra Messing, Sandra Oh, Rose Byrne, Toni Collette and Heidi Klum. With a special mention for Sigourney Weaver – who always looks incredible, never ages and is simply flawless.
